SUMMARY

Assists planning, execution of material, product or performance testing, identification of appropriate techniques and laboratory equipment and controls for fact-based test results; aids in writing and developing both informal and formal test analyses, reports, and summaries; Leads in the assembly of customized, experimental, prototype or other short-run assembly projects; review, analysis and reporting of material capabilities and product failure modes using scientific techniques. Assists in creation of process documents and test procedures and laboratory practices compliant to ISO 9001:2015; provides support for standard, engineered and new product development; provides product or material compliance monitoring and support for Quality Assurance; and other similar duties necessary to the functions of a full-service test laboratory.

PRIMARTY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Executes the plans or assists in the modification of basic and advanced laboratory tests and procedures using scientific techniques compliant to ISO, ASTM, consumer, commercial, military, aerospace or other governing test standards.
  • Performs internal or external testing to applicable plans or specifications using a variety of techniques and/or laboratory equipment as needed to achieve accurate reportable test results.
  • Implements and creates scientific data in both informal and formal test reports, analyses, summaries, charts/graphs, formal reports or other communications to document, communicate and retain necessary test results to enhance engineering, compliance or/or product creation processes.
  • Uses and specifies test equipment or scientific processes to evaluate capability, feasibility, performance or conformance of product or processes.
  • Performs accurate analysis as required by applicable test plans or specifications, including failure mode determination.
  • Operates laboratory equipment or scientific processes to evaluate material, products, or processes. Able to train others in the proper use of all laboratory equipment.


  • Records test or process data; generates reports, graphs and/or statistical data; complies data into controlled documents and reports laboratory findings to management.
  • Assists in creating sketches, drawings, and fixtures or other lab process controls as required to enhance laboratory capabilities.
  • Aids in the researches and recommends equipment for laboratory efficiency and capability improvements.
  • Assists in the build or assembly prototype or development parts or materials involving a variety of materials and techniques including foam and metal fabrication and general product assembly techniques.


  • Actively supports Pelican's Quality Objectives and contributes to the Quality Management System as assigned.
  • Actively supports and adheres to Pelican's Safety Guidelines and actively participates and contributes to the Safety Management System as assigned.
  • Maintains work area(s) and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.



JOB REQUIREMENTS



  • Minimum education: Associates Degree (A.S.) in Mechanical, Packaging, Testing, or Quality Engineering or equivalent product testing knowledge.
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding and knowledge of protocols: ASTMs, MIL-STD, ISO, and other governing testing bodies.
  • Intermediate knowledge of laboratory testing or product development, engineering or mechanical assembly.
  • Advanced math skills including binary operations (+-/*) and decimal/fraction conversions.
  • Ability to read and record measurements and test results with precision and accuracy; identify and utilize detailed part names, numbers, and critical characteristics; learn, develop and follow complex test processes.
  • Intermediate ability to read engineering drawings and test specifications.
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with manual or electronic reporting of results.
  • Must be able to communicate and interact effectively and cooperatively both verbally and in writing with laboratory management and staff.
  • Must have the ability to complete work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to detect, report and solve problems and have good time management skills.
  • Ability to operate industrial forklifts; must be able to maintain certification



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in product testing, manufacturing or laboratory environment with strong mechanical assembly skills preferred.
  • Ability to perform and lead development and improvement of standard testing procedures and methods.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings at an advanced level, determine standards, and help train others to relate and apply drawings of parts to the actual parts.
  • Ability to interpret and integrate complex specifications into test processes.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including accuracy of data entry and ability to use advanced features of Microsoft 365 software.

  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on the evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS



  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
