Working Title
Library Info Specialist 2 - Access Services

Position Grade

Position Summary

The College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (CULLS) has two (2) openings for full-time Library Information Specialist 2 positions within the Access Services unit. Incumbents will bring library and/or public service experience and skills, a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, and interest in learning new skills. Incumbents will perform moderately complex and specialized tasks in a fast-paced public service setting within University Libraries. They will monitor daily operations and participate in implementing and communicating operating policies and procedures. They may coordinate, prioritize and oversee the work of other staff and/or student employees. Regular work assignments may involve service and process improvement. Contributing to the creation of an inclusive and welcoming environment for all library users is an ongoing responsibility.

The first position is based in Zimmerman Library with a 6:30am to 3:30pm schedule Tuesday through Friday and a 9:00am to 6:00pm schedule on Saturdays during the academic year, and a Monday - Friday schedule during summer and intersession periods. This position provides circulation and reference support for users as well as facility oversight to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for the campus community.

The second position is based partially in Zimmerman Library and partially in the South Campus Repository (SCR) with an anticipated 9:00am - 6:00pm Tuesday - Saturday schedule during the academic year and a Monday - Friday schedule during summer and intersession periods. In addition to providing general public services support in Zimmerman Library, the position supports an integrated range of tasks and duties associated with accessioning, retrieving, and maintaining library materials housed in the high bay, high density storage facility. The position requires extensive handling, sorting, and storing library material as well as shelving and retrieving material from the high bay shelving units, which requires the operation of an order picker, for which training will be provided. Loaded trays may weigh over 30 pounds. The position also involves the use of different integrated library systems to maintain inventory records and specialized software used for interlibrary loan and circulation services.

The successful candidates will join Access Services, the team that helps UNM and community library users access information by providing services across multiple library buildings and online in the areas of circulation, resource sharing (Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery), technology lending, course reserves, information and research help, and collection maintenance. Within the UL's main campus buildings, we provide comfortable and dynamic spaces to support individual and collaborative learning. We also offer programming within library spaces to engage our campus and community with information and ideas. The Access Services team is based in three open library facilities on UNM's Central Campus and the high bay, high density repository on UNM's South Campus. Zimmerman is the state's largest library located at the heart of the state's flagship university. This 300,000 square foot building is home to over a million volumes, the Center for Southwest Research, the department of Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences, the Adobe Creative Commons, the Indigenous Nations Library Program, and a variety of student spaces designed for both individual study and group activity.

We honor the land itself and those who remain stewards of this land throughout the generations and also acknowledge our committed relationship to Indigenous peoples. We gratefully recognize our history.
