The Sign Maker fabricates signs in accordance with established standards using computers, cutting machines, and other equipment. Installs and maintains signage at all university locations and campuses. Coordinates proposals, estimates, and installation of signs from third party signage vendors.
Job Description Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Designs and fabricates signs for indoor and outdoor buildings and events including directories, nameplates, ADA, braille, traffic, parking lots, and real estate signage.
- Hangs banners on bunting poles and places sign stanchions as needed.
- Installs and maintains traffic control signage.
- Complies with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, university policy and accepted safe work practices.
- Solicits proposals and prepares sign estimates from third party sign vendors. Oversees the delivery, quality and installation of signage from vendors.
- Maintains sign shop supplies and equipment inventory.
- Maintains sign shop equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
- Uses a university supplied vehicle to respond to off campus work requests at the Buckingham Center, Naples Botanical Gardens, and any other current and future off-campus properties.
- Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.

Additional Job Description Required Qualifications:
- This position requires a high school diploma and three years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
- Full-time experience with sign design and installation.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher and Outlook).
- Valid driver license.
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Sign Mate, Vision Pro 7 (CS5), Adobe Illustrator, or Photo Shop.
- Experience with Engraving & Routing System software and components or other sign shop equipment and software. CAD experience.
- Experience with basic hand tools, shop equipment, and general maintenance skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of or ability to learn Sign Mate and Vision Pro Engraving & Routing System software and components or other sign shop equipment and software.
- Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
- Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Skill in applying paint and associated products.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
- Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
- Ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
Pay Grade: 14 - $16.78/hour to negotiable. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
