DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Deputy Communications Director, you will be responsible for supporting the Communications Director and Press Secretary by receiving, monitoring, and tracking media inquiries. Work involves gathering and verifying information as well as drafting detailed responses that align with department priorities and messaging. In the absence of the Press Secretary or Communications Director, you will take on their roles of reviewing and editing media materials and providing strategic counsel. While collaborating with agency partners and statewide stakeholders you will have the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute media events to support public outreach efforts through publications and informational materials. Strong communication skills will enable you to develop and coordinate public information campaigns that spotlight department programs and key initiatives. Interested in learning more? - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in preparing public relations promotion through all media; and a bachelor's degree with major course work in journalism, communications, English, or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- You must demonstrate the ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor and Industry.
- You must demonstrate the ability to work with professionalism, discretion, and good work ethic.
- You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
- You must show initiative and problem-solving skills.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
