THE POSITION

Do you have experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, or equipment? The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Clarks Summit State Hospital, Facility Services Department, is on the lookout for a skilled, self-motivated Electrician. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

An Electrician 1 performs skilled tasks in accordance with standard practices of electrical trade and National Electrical Code on all electrical equipment, systems, and fixtures in facility. This includes, but is not limited to checking all pump motors, compressors, and their related controls, and lubricating, repairing, and maintaining electrical equipment. You will also be responsible for lighting in entire facility and installing conduit, switchgear, and related controls. You can expect to locate and correct power failures and shorts in circuits as well as upgrade and install new electrical panels and wiring to meet the needs of patients and staff when the electrical load requires an addition. This position responds as quickly as possible or as emergencies arise to prevent personal injuries to patients and reports any problems or deficiencies in the physical plant or equipment to the immediate supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • 12 person rotation for weekends and on-call holidays
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Travel: As needed
  • Overtime: As needed
  • Shift work: No
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Electrician Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid license as a journey-level electrician issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
