Position Summary: The Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Systems Test Engineer will be responsible for conducting and leading testing activities for electric vehicle and energy storage systems at the module and pack level. The engineer will adhere to all TUV SUD policies and procedures as outlined in various Corporate Policies and the Employee Handbook. Responsibilities: Conduct passive propagation, external short circuit, overcharge, over discharge, over temperature, various cycling requirements, drop testing, roll over, thermal shock, immersion, crush, post-test tear down, and other relevant tests on electric vehicle and energy storage systems. Document all test results using test monitoring sheets, technical reports, processed data, photographs, and videos. Utilize a variety of instruments and equipment, including battery cyclers, temperature measurements (thermocouple, thermistor, RTD, infrared cameras), voltage and resistance measurements (cell voltage sense, module/pack with multimeter, various custom data acquisition setups), and instrumentation measurements (pressure transducers, flow meters, CAN bus communications, surveillance cameras). Follow testing standards, such as UN 38.3, UN ECE R100.02/03, UL1973, UL2580, IEC 62619, IEC 62620, IEC 60529, ISO 12405, SAEJ 2464, and additional customer-specified test procedures. Prepare and follow customer project timelines to ensure on-time delivery of test results and reports. Perform product certification assessments Perform equipment calibrations per ISO 17025 guidelines Validate equipment calibrations are in accordance with their applicable schedules and rangesfor the entire period used for testing Commissioning and troubleshooting of test equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results Lead meetings with clients to discuss about project updates and test-specific issues, if applicable. Innovate existing and develop new testing techniques and equipment Ensure consumable materials comply with applicable requirements Support all testing staff by answering questions, providing guidance and resolutions Perform project reviews Perform Proficiency Testing Maintain confidentiality of customers, products tested, and appropriate internal information Ensure compliance with established work standards and practices, including the use of all required personal protective equipment (PPE) Keep abreast of present and future product requirements, test procedures, instrumentation, technology and TUV SUD Canada Engineering service capabilities by internal training sessions, external seminars and reading of technical articles. Your qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in testing of electric vehicles and/or energy storage systems Strong technical proficiency in materials electrochemistry, lithium-ion battery systems and other advanced battery technologies Experience in test method development and execution, instrumentation and data acquisition, and safety systems Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment Experience with post-processing and analyzing large data sets using Python and/or MATLAB Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Familiarity with connected area network bus, internet protocol, and RS232 Ability to work independently and travel occasionally as required Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering Physical Requirements: Ability to safely handle and operate laboratory equipment. Capability to occasionally lift and handle equipment weighing up to 25 lbs Additional Information
