Your responsibilities

The Senior Counsel Employment and Litigation will be responsible for providing employment law and litigation advice to the various Business Segments. This position will report directly to thyssenkrupp North America's General Counsel, Kasia Dygas. This individual will provide general employment law counseling, employment litigation, and commercial litigation support, working with a team of six attorneys (in addition to General Counsel). The position is Remote with the occasional need to travel to the various Business Segment sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice to the company, subsidiaries and affiliates in the areas of employment law, employee benefits, and strategic litigation management.
  • Conduct workplace investigations.
  • Establish objectives and schedules to support and meet business requirements.
  • Advise companies in creating workplace policies and procedures in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Understand business requirements and the company's risk tolerance.
  • Communicate with and direct outside counsel on employment and litigation matters.
  • Manage employment litigation, including class actions.
  • Advise on union issues and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Approve bills from outside counsel and other professionals.
  • Confer with management and make recommendations regarding strategic planning for business matters.
  • Maintain knowledge of current legal issues.
  • Collaborate with team members to share learning and experiences obtained.

Your profile

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Active bar license in good standing with any US jurisdiction.
  • A minimum of six plus (6+) years of employment and litigation experience, possessing expertise in a broad array of employment issues, both federal and state.
  • Employment law counseling; investigations; wage and hour compliance; employee benefits; labor relations.
  • Employment litigation experience.
  • Experience within a multinational environment.
  • Combination of law firm and in-house experience is strongly preferred.

  • Self-motivated and ability to complete matters without extensive supervision. Must be able to work independently and be execution-oriented.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Able to travel as needed, domestically and internationally (roughly quarterly travel).
  • Fluent English.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, preferred not required
