HDR is looking for a Transmission Line Business Class Leader to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in either Raleigh or Charlotte, NC. This individual will be responsible for knowledge and execution of technical aspects and deliverables of projects assigned. They must be a competent engineer who understands and can complete all technical requirements of projects from basic to moderate complexity.

They will also be required to support the growth of the Transmission Line team, assign tasks to senior level staff, and provide technical mentorship to the team. They will also be expected to assign quality control reviews for work performed by senior level engineers and/or designers. The Business Class Leader will also work with client managers and the national business class to identify and develop specific technical expertise and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline. They may also assist with developing technical papers and presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events. They will be expected to work independently, and direct, mentor, train, and supervise efforts of the area Transmission Line team. They will establish strong client relationships in the region, as well as an in-depth understanding of the clients' business objectives to determine effective execution strategies, and then build local teams to leverage existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world class services to those clients. They will also manage individual projects within their technical expertise.

On a day-to-day basis, they will also be expected to:




  • Be responsible for monitoring, growing and participating in the execution of HDR's portfolio of Power Delivery services throughout the North Carolina Area.
  • Manage key projects or programs, including managing technical staff and sub-consultant teams to meet project delivery needs and exceed client expectations.
  • Participate in power delivery marketing efforts, including communications and client development with business, operations, marketing and project staff to maximize client satisfaction, company growth and profitability.
  • Work with local and regional operations and national leadership to build capabilities through recruitment and staff training.
  • Assist with development of technical papers and or presentations that showcase HDR's capabilities and industry experience.
  • Be responsible for quality control reviews in accordance with HDR's policy.
  • Plan and manage all aspects of transmission line projects.
  • Independently coordinate work of engineers and balance resource planning throughout entire project's development.
  • Coordinate workload throughout entire project development and ensure completion of documents on schedule.
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate/adjust work efforts with the team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to schedules.
  • Perform other duties as needed.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Previous staff supervision experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Specific experience performing aspects associated with Transmission design including:


    • Structural analysis of Transmission towers / poles.
    • Permit support


  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of PLSCAD, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel, less than 10%
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associated to enhance HDR's technical expertise and brand
  • Local candidates are preferred

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
