Job Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an Exciting Potential opportunity for a Certified Medical Assistant to support Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA.

Minimum Requirements:

    US Citizen
  • Degree/Education: Must be a graduate of a medical assistant training program recognized by an educational institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Preferred qualifications include graduation from a program accredited by CAAHEP, ABHES, AAMA, or a formal medical services training program of the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • BLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience: 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant after graduation. Pediatric experience and customer service experience is preferred.
  • Licensure/Registration: Hold an active and unrestricted license or-certification to practice as a Medical Assistant.

Duties:

Serves as a Medical Assistant performing a range of standard patient care procedures in an outpatient primary care or specialty care clinic supporting the delivery of patient centered care for newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. The clinic settings may include, but are not limited to, Family Practice, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and other sub-specialty clinics. A medical assistant certified may perform the following duties delegated by, and under the supervision of a government supervisor

1. Clinical Support & Patient Care

  • Room patients and prepare for exams, procedures, and minor office surgeries.

  • Obtain and document vital signs, patient history, and presenting complaints in the electronic health record.

  • Assist providers during exams and procedures (e.g., pap smears, biopsies, IUD insertion/removal, vasectomies).

  • Perform aseptic and sterile techniques; assist with wound care and dressing changes.

  • Administer medications, injections, and immunizations under provider direction and within regulatory guidelines.

  • Conduct telephone and in-person intake screenings, provide post-visit instructions, and follow-up as directed.

2. Diagnostic Testing & Specimen Collection

  • Perform and assist with diagnostic testing (e.g., EKGs, respiratory testing, glucometer, urine dipsticks).

  • Collect blood, urine, stool, and other specimens using appropriate techniques, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.

  • Process, label, and transport specimens; conduct CLIA-waived and moderate complexity tests if qualified.

3. Equipment, Environment & Infection Control

  • Maintain and clean exam and procedure areas; prepare equipment and supplies.

  • Sterilize instruments, wrap items for autoclaving, and ensure proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste.

  • Adhere to infection control protocols and standard precautions.

4. Administrative & Support Duties

  • Check-in patients, scan documents, schedule appointments, and provide front desk assistance.

  • Contact patients with follow-up instructions and coordinate referrals or additional services.

  • Participate in on-boarding of new staff, maintain supply inventory, and perform minor equipment maintenance.

5. Emergency Response & Safety

  • Recognize and respond to life-threatening situations, initiate CPR when necessary, and support emergency procedures.

  • Promote a safe and hazard-free environment for patients and staff.
