Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pharmacy Resident - Brooklyn.

In this role, the successful candidate The New York University Langone Health (NYULH) Pharmacy Residency (PGY1) is a 12-month program that will provide the resident with an intensive and individualized experience in the in-patient setting. The goal of this residency is to enable the resident to develop the skills necessary to provide a high level of pharmaceutical care in a variety of practice settings. The resident will be an integral member of the medical team, collaborate on patient care, participate in medical emergencies, and provide pharmacotherapeutic and pharmacokinetic consultation. After completing this residency, the pharmacist will have gained the knowledge and experience to be a competent general pharmacy practitioner. This program follows the guidelines and accreditation standards of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacy (ASHP).

Pharmacy Practice Residency Curriculum

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency curriculum at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn consists of the following requirements, including core rotations.

Orientation/Pharmacy Operations: 4 weeks Internal Medicine I: 4 weeks Internal Medicine II: 4 weeks Medical Intensive Care Unit: 4 weeks Infectious Diseases (ID Consult Service): 4 weeks Infectious Diseases (Antimicrobial Stewardship): 4 weeks Surgical Intensive Care Unit: 4 weeks Emergency Medicine: 4 weeks Pharmacy Administration: 4 weeks Research: 4 weeks and Longitudinal Elective Rotations: 8 weeks

Medication Use Evaluation Project: Longitudinal Pharmacy Administration: Longitudinal Pharmacy Staffing: Longitudinal Weekend On-Call: Longitudinal Code Pager: Longitudinal Medication Safety Morbidity and Mortality: Longitudinal

Elective Rotations

Residents may choose elective rotations in Trauma, Neuro Intensive Care Unit, Medical Intensive Care II, Surgical Intensive Care Unit II, Emergency Medicine II, and Infectious Diseases Consult II.

Pharmacy Practice Residency Research Requirements

Residents must complete a scholarly research project. You are encouraged to choose a topic in an area of interest to you that will contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge.

You must also complete a medication use evaluation and present the results at theASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. Opens in a new tab.

Pharmacy Practice Residency Longitudinal Experiences

Residents have the following longitudinal responsibilities:

    • a scholarly research project, with results presented at a regional pharmacy conference
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) training for participating in rapid response teams (RRTs)/airway codes
    • clinical in-house or operational coverage every other weekend
    • staffing every other weekend
    • participation in a medication use evaluation project
    • monograph and class review
    • medication safety experiences
    • participation in various hospital-wide committees
    • participation in a teaching certificate program (available through our college of pharmacy affiliation)
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    • Ascertain and assess the medication and drug use history of patients and document pertinent findings in the patient's medical record. Completes progress notes, consults, and ensure these notes are reviewed and co-signed by a preceptor.
    • Rounding with medical teams. Monitoring patient medications daily. Perform pharmacokinetic (PK) calculations and investigate adverse drug reactions (ADRs).
    • Assess patient condition and develop treatment plans daily. Communicate with attendingfellowsresidentsinternsNPPAs regarding changes in treatment plans. Control medication administration. Assure that medication orders or other data is entered into the patient record or profile.
    • Participate in the discharge planning process to insure that the patient's pharmaceutical needs are met. Perform patient counseling with evidence based medicine.
    • Supervise and direct the work completed by pharmacy technicians and other support personnel.

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
Position will require weekend on call responsibilities
Position requires flexible scheduling

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
Licensure or eligible for licensure in the State of New York.

Required Licenses: Pharmacist License-NYS

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $48,750.00 - $53,560.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
