Job Title: Database Developer, Senior

Onsite Requirement: A couple of days onsite required and travel to different sites.

Job Summary: LCG is seeking a Database Developer, Senior to support an Applications Modernization Project. This position involves designing and building modern, scalable, and secure SQL Server databases to replace legacy DB2 systems. The ideal candidate will play a key role in creating robust data structures, writing optimized queries, ensuring data integrity, and contributing to system integration and performance improvements.

The Database Developer, Senior will collaborate with application developers, system architects, business analysts, and client stakeholders to modernize the data infrastructure for both the Applicant and Administrator applications used in the client programs.

Key Responsibilities



  • Design, develop, and implement SQL Server databases to replace existing DB2-based structures.
  • Create scalable database schemas to support modern web-based .NET applications across devices and browsers.
  • Write, test, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions for high performance and reliability.
  • Perform ETL operations to migrate and transform legacy data into the new SQL database structures.
  • Ensure database integrity, security, and compliance with DOE's data protection standards.
  • Conduct database performance tuning, indexing, and optimization activities to support peak hiring periods.
  • Implement and manage data backup, disaster recovery, and auditing strategies.
  • Support integration of the new database system with existing DOE systems (e.g., Payroll, Collections).
  • Collaborate with the DevOps team to implement continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) practices for data layers.
  • Participate in reporting requirements, creating both ad hoc and standardized reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Power BI.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for database design, procedures, and configurations.


Qualifications



  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience in database development, with a strong focus on Microsoft SQL Server (2014/2016/2019).
  • Proficient in SQL Server Data Tools, SSRS, and Power BI.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, relational databases, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Experience migrating from legacy systems (DB2) to SQL Server in a large-scale public sector or enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in Agile or hybrid Agile environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and data privacy standards in public sector environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio for database development and integration with application layers.
  • Familiarity with .NET-based web applications and integration considerations.
  • Experience working on government or education sector modernization projects.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices as applied to database deployment.


Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $134,400 to $165,300 per year benchmarked in the New York area. The target salary is $150,100 for this role. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
