Senior Underwriter

The Senior Underwriter will be responsible for the underwriting of new business for an assigned group of agencies as well as involvement in servicing and the renewal process as necessary. Requires extensive interaction and collaboration with internal staff and agencies including company personnel, agency staff and producers, policyholders, and insureds. Must maintain a professional demeanor at all times. Duties include but are not limited to:

Quickly and effectively make underwriting decisions based on review and analysis of submission or policy characteristics based on company pricing and underwriting guidelines. Collaborate closely with other team members, sales and management as needed to assess risks and attract business.
• Develop and maintain strong agency relationships and work closely with Underwriters, Sales and Management to implement agency plans and share accountability in meeting territory goals.
• Provide support and coaching to the underwriting team and provide leadership on multiple products available to the team in order to quickly and effectively make risk decisions.
• Actively participate in industry events and travel to meet with agencies to support relationships.
• Maintain strong product line and industry expertise and stay abreast of changes in markets.
• Other tasks, responsibilities and projects as needed.

• Bachelor's degree or relevant underwriting experience required
• 5+ years of workers compensation experience, multi-line experience preferred but not required
• Must have workers compensation underwriting expertise including a strong knowledge of workers compensation classification and demonstrated technical knowledge of workers compensation coverage, risk selection and pricing.
• Strong analytical ability and organizational skills. In addition, must have a demonstrated ability to lead, plan and work well with others
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to travel
