DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in the repair and maintenance of various vehicles, including cars, trucks, and heavy machinery. Your responsibilities will involve learning to service equipment such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders, while also identifying necessary repairs. You will assist in replacing components like shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, and brakes. Additionally, you will help with wheel balancing and alignment checks, perform minor body repairs, and test, repair, or replace alternators and electrical systems. Your role will also include participating in preventative maintenance tasks for vehicles and equipment, as well as conducting automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes. You will be involved in the repair and replacement of engine subassemblies and the adjustment of various systems, including cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air conditioning. Furthermore, you will assist in the maintenance of fuel injection, brake, steering, and transmission systems, along with the repair or rebuilding of construction and shop equipment.
You will also take part in official state inspections for safety and emissions on assigned vehicles, ensuring compliance with regulations. This includes performing necessary repairs, conducting road tests, completing inspection stickers, and maintaining accurate State Inspection Records and related documentation. Your role will require you to identify equipment issues using diagnostic tools and procedures, assisting in determining the appropriate repair methods, tools, and parts needed. You will gain experience in repairing and maintaining motorized hand tools such as chain saws, compressors, jackhammers, tampers, hand mowers, trimmers, routers, patching machines, and heating kettles. Additionally, you will be responsible for reporting any missing parts or broken equipment and recommending orders for replacements as needed.
Maintaining a clean and safe work environment will be a crucial aspect of your duties. You will learn to properly utilize safety procedures and protective equipment, as well as identify and mitigate hazards in the workplace. - Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
working in the automotive field; or - Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Conditions of Employment:
- Certain positions may require employees to possess an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's Permit or License on the first day of employment.
- Certain positions may require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- All positions will require employees to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
- All positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- Certain positions will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
