Your Role on the Team

Under the general supervision of the Project Scientist, the successful applicant will be responsible for husbandry, breeding, biopsy, data recording of Alzheimer's Disease and other genetic mouse models within the UC Irvine Transgenic Mouse Facility (TMF). Additional duties as the Colony Manager involve performing laboratory procedures and analysis, including but not limited to, extraction of DNA from biopsies of genetically modified mice and molecular analysis of genetic changes in the genomes.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $26.41- $27.54 (Hourly).

Required:

  • Ability to participate in shared project management workflow (via Teams, Slack, Trello, etc.) Excellent time-management and record-keeping skills Strong work ethic Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to see projects through to completion Strong interpersonal skills with the flexibility to navigate dynamic team settings and shifting priorities.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, reproductive physiology, genetics, molecular biology or other closely related field, or minimum of 2 years work experience managing a genetically modified mouse colony in a research laboratory setting.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of basic mouse genetics and transgenic line development workflow Knowledge of basic CRISPR Cas9 technology Experience in mouse colony management software Experience in conventional PCR and qPCR genotyping Experience in designing PCR protocols
  • 1-2 years of similar experience

Special Conditions:

  • Early morning shift required: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Occasional overtime as needed. May be required to work on weekends as needed.
  • Must wear protective clothing (PPE) provided.
  • Continuous exposure to potential allergens in the animal rooms, including animal waste that may accumulate in cages and bedding between scheduled cleanings. Other allergens present include, but are not limited to, animal hair, dander, and dust. The work environment is enclosed without direct access to open air, which may intensify exposure to these allergens.
