Essential Job Duties |
Are you a skilled painter with a passion for craftsmanship and a commitment to quality? NC State University is seeking a
Journey-Level Painter to join our
dedicated Paint Shop team, where you'll play a key role in enhancing and preserving the beauty and function of our campus facilities.
In this role,
you'll contribute your expertise in painting techniques, surface preparation, and drywall repair to a wide range of projects-each one helping to maintain a safe, welcoming, and vibrant environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform skilled painting duties on a variety of surfaces, including but not limited to walls, ceilings, casework, fixtures, handrails, bollards, and equipment
Conduct drywall repairs as necessary to prepare surfaces for painting Review plans and specifications related to painting projects and select appropriate products and materials based on the scope of work- Apply expertise in surface preparation, proper application techniques, and finishing to achieve high-quality results
- Understand and implement the safe use of various painting products, including adherence to PPE requirements and proper waste disposal practices
Conduct regular inspections of work areas, paint shop, and equipment to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with hazardous material regulations- Promptly report any safety infractions, accidents, or injuries in accordance with university guidelines
- Surface preparation such as cleaning, sanding, patching, priming, and ensuring areas are ready for paint application
Match paint colors and finishes across campus facilities and operate the tint machine located in the Paint Shop to mix custom paint colors as needed- Collaborate with and assist other trade shops as needed to support broader facilities operations

Other Responsibilities |
- This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University, and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternative schedule
- Assist with campus-wide power washing tasks as directed by the Paint Shop
- Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public.
- Capable of understanding verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
- Possesses knowledge concerning the differences between various coatings and their appropriate uses
- Experience in the painting trade
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 plus pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations

- Prefer journey-level commercial painting experience

- Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
