JOB SUMMARY

The Thrive Clinic within the Neonatology division in the Pediatrics Department is the neuro-developmental follow up clinic for NICU-Graduates. The Thrive Clinic serves all North Texas population from NICUs all over North Texas (Parkland, Children's, Clements, and Presbyterian Dallas). The Thrive Clinic is one of the only clinics in the nation that in bed neuro-development follow up into a primary care model, which allows the clinic to serve the population in unique ways. The Thrive Clinic prides itself on being experts in NICU follow-up care. The Thrive clinic is now hiring for their next Sr. Children Developmental Specialist. This specialist will need to have experience with a variety of psychometric assessments and a passion to work in a multidisciplinary team.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education


    • Master's Degree in early childhood disorders, child psychology or related field




  • Experience


    • 5 years developmental counseling experience with children in various settings such as a follow-up clinic or hospital -AND-
    • Experience communicating with parents regarding developmental topics with sensitivity to culture and learning styles -AND-
    • Knowledge of early childhood development and experience working with special needs children between the ages 0-3.
    • Experience and knowledge of standardized developmental assessment tools, including administration and interpretation of such tools as

      • The Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development III and IV
      • The NICU Network Neurobehavioral Scale.

    • 5 years of research experience working on data collection and analysis specializing in early childhood development and various topics involving NICU follow-up




JOB DUTIES



  • Performs routine clinical assessments of developmental progress for all CMC Thrive and THD Thrive patients at well-child visits and/or neurodevelopmental only visits.
  • Perform research protocol assessments of neurodevelopmental outcomes for observational and randomized controlled trials for Neonatal Research Network (NIH-NICHD), as well as for other multi-site and local studies.
  • Reports and documents assessment results, consultation notes and parent information into EPIC on a timely basis. Completes and files digital and paper form protocols including calculations of assessment results.
  • Provides therapy referrals and follow-up correspondence for clinic staff and patients.
  • Provides developmental consultations and follow-up appointments.
  • Provides assessment results, developmental and parenting education, and recommendations to parents and clinic staff.
  • Serves as database administrator for Thrive Clinical Program and Research by processing, organizing, summarizing, and analyzing data, and reports results using spreadsheet, software applications or program platforms (e.g., Microsoft Access, Excel).
  • Maintains existing data organizational system and maintains the integrity/security of the data and follow best practices around data management, governance and usage.
  • Performs data collection and data analysis to track patient flow at Thrive and identify patients who needs developmental assessments to improve Thrive Program effectiveness.
  • Serves as Program Coordinator for therapies and other services needed by patients. Maintains an active relationship with various ECI and Home Care therapy agencies as well as local organizations to provide education, guidance, collaborations, referrals and up-to-date resources to ARCH staff, research staff, clinical residents, internship students, and observers in promoting education and professional growth.
  • Serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Neonatal Evaluation and Outcomes Network (NEON) and Program Coordinator for Reach out and Read (ROR).
  • Working supervision over graduate student interns, providing instruction, and training in order for students to meet practicum/internship criteria.
  • Maintains assessment kits to ensure that all tools are complete and cleaned to optimize the number of appointments per day
  • Prepares clinic rooms with educational media such as iPads (locked into room in designated locks). Provides educational materials and toys for patients and their families.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions:

    • (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients;
    • (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants;
    • (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records);
    • or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.
