The Associate Director of Pediatric Imaging Services is responsible for providing strategic guidance and oversight for pediatric imaging services enterprise-wide. This leadership role involves developing and implementing standardized practices and protocols to ensure safe and effective pediatric radiology services. The Associate Director collaborates with key stakeholders to drive innovations and align pediatric imaging services with the strategic objectives of the organization.

Essential Job Statements

Clinical Leadership and Supervision:

  • Oversee the pediatric radiology staff, ensuring that all radiologists and technicians are highly trained and compliant with current pediatric radiological practices and standards.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to staff, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in pediatric patient care.

Quality Control and Protocol Development:

  • Develop, implement, and regularly update radiology protocols specific to pediatric care, ensuring compliance with national safety standards.

  • Monitor the quality of radiological services and implement quality improvement initiatives based on feedback and data analysis.

Operational Management:

  • Assist in the management of the department's daily operations, including but not limited to: scheduling, equipment maintenance, and workflow optimization to maximize efficiency and patient throughput.

Budgeting and Resource Allocation:

  • Contribute to budgeting and financial planning for the department with a focus on cost-effective resource allocation without compromising patient care.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that the department adheres to all regulatory requirements and that all radiology practices are compliant with healthcare laws and ethical standards specific to pediatric care.

Research and Technological Advancement:

  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in pediatric radiology and evaluate the potential implementation of new technologies and techniques that can improve patient outcomes.

  • Encourage and facilitate research initiatives within the department to contribute to the broader field of pediatric radiology.

Collaboration and Representation:

  • Represent the pediatric radiology department in cross-departmental meetings and collaborate with other medical professionals to enhance multidisciplinary care.

  • Act as a spokesperson for pediatric radiology issues within the hospital and at external conferences and seminars.

Patient Population

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit.

Demonstrates knowledge and related competencies of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age, specific needs and to provide the equitable care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Neonates (0-4 weeks)

Infant (1-12 months)

Pediatrics (1-12 years)

Adolescents (13-17 years)

Adults (18-64 years)

Employment Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Radiation Science (or closely related healthcare program), Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration Graduation from a JRC or JRCNMT accredited program in radiologic technology or nuclear medicine technology or graduation from an accredited RN nursing program

Preferred Education:

Master's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Radiation Science, Nursing or closely related field

Licensure/Certification Required:

Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Licensure/Certification Preferred:

Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA) certification through AHRA

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible Radiology supervisory/management positions

Seven (7) years of progressively more responsible Radiology supervisory/management positions Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment Previous work experience in developing and implementing new initiative and programs and in process improvement activities

Working Conditions

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.

General office environment.

Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel.
May have periods of constant interruptions.

Prolonged periods of working alone.
