- Perform whole-building energy-simulation computer modeling throughout the design process utilizing IES VE, Energy Plus/Open Studio, and Pollination/Ladybug/Honeybee energy-modeling software for building optimization and analysis.
- Review building design plans, documentation, and contractor submittals for alignment with final energy models.
- Provide LEED energy performance credit documentation for energy modeling compliance and respond to LEED reviewer comments.
- Support project design by modeling various advanced commercial HVAC systems to evaluate options, simulate performance, analyze results, develop recommendations, prepare financial analyses, and present to clients.
- Manipulate model inputs, summarize, and visualize modeled results using Microsoft Excel and other data-visualization platforms to educate clients about building design and operations insights.
- Interpret, apply, and ensure compliance with architecture, engineering, and construction industry codes and standards, including IECC, LEED, ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 55, ASHRAE 228, AEGB, Title 24, CALGreen, incentive programs, and others.
- Apply heat-transfer principles to complete engineering calculations that impact system controls, configurations, and energy estimates and promote quality assurance and quality control of building-performance results.
- Collect applicable data, inputs, and parameters from BIM and other architectural software applications for building-performance analyses.
- Create calibrated building-energy models using utility and building-management-system data in compliance with IPMVP and ASHRAE Guideline 14.
- Benchmark Energy Use Intensity using CBECS, DOE Prototype Building Models, EPA Portfolio Manager, CAL-ARCH, RETScreen, and similar sources.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to build alignment and deliver sustainable outcomes that translate building-performance results into actionable design solutions.
- Maintain leading-edge knowledge of best sustainability practices by influential designers and engineers and bring appropriate opportunities to projects.
- Serve as an external leader within related industries on issues involving technical capability with respect to sustainable design.
