Job Description Summary: |
The Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity, in the Milken Institute School of Public Health, is seeking a Research Scientist to work on a large foundation-funded project studying various aspects of
reproductive health workforce. The goal of this research is to develop an evidence base on the composition, distribution, scope of services, and Medicaid acceptance of the healthcare workforce providing abortion and contraception services in the US, as well as potential shifts in this workforce in response to major events such as the Covid-19 pandemic or the Dobbs vs Jackson Supreme Court decision.. The Research Scientist will play an integral role as part of the team and will participate in and supervise the development of project deliverables, including data collection, analysis, and written and oral presentations.
Responsibilities Include:
- Analyzing and interpreting large datasets, including national-level medical and prescription claims data
- Drafting manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications
- Preparing and presenting analyses to collaborators and external community members.
- Representing the Mullan Institute and its research at local and national meetings and conferences.
- Training and mentoring research staff, including student employees and staff research assistants/associates
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Master's degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- PhD, DrPH, or ScD, or MPH/MPP in health policy, health services research, or similar field
- Strong quantitative analysis skills, preferably with large datasets
- Demonstrated experience in writing peer-reviewed publications
- Subject matter knowledge of reproductive health and/or health workforce
- Demonstrated competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality
- Ability to function both independently as well as part of a team
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience with, or interest in learning, data visualization skills
