The Institute of Linguistics is searching for a100% full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track Lecturer. We are seeking an innovative instructor and scholar with extensive teaching experience to teach courses in a range of Linguistics topics at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including introductory, exploratory, linguistics subfields and special topics. The full-time teaching load for Lecturers is six courses annually, three courses per semester, of three to five credits each. Instructional duties include teaching assigned courses, assisting with material and assessment design, holding office hours to assist and advise students, responding to student and department inquiries, and participating in relevant training and meetings. This position requires continued personal growth within the profession, keeping current with the field and broadening knowledge and expertise. Appointment Details This is a 100%-time, annually renewable position over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May). This position begins fall semester 2025. This is an academic professional position at the rank of Lecturer, consistent with University policy and depending on qualifications. Additional teaching opportunities during the summer term may be available. Job Responsibilities Teaching, course preparation, and course development (85%): * Teach six courses per academic year (three per semester) on a variety of linguistics topics, as assigned by the director * Develop course content and syllabi * Prepare course materials, attend class meetings and deliver course content * Evaluate student performance and submit grading * Hold office hours and respond to student inquiries * Serve as mentor and course leader to graduate students assigned to assist with classes (when applicable) Service and professional development (15%): * Attend and participate in departmental meetings * Advise and mentor students * Serve on student MA and PhD committees * Participate in University workshops related to teaching, technology, diversity and inclusion, and other related topics. * Participate in departmental service as assigned by the director, which could include organizing department, research, outreach events, and mentoring student groups, and program development * Maintain active scholarship in the field of linguistics by reading relevant research, and attending workshops and conferences Qualifications
Required qualifications: * PhD in Linguistics or a related field * At least three years of experience teaching linguistics at the university level * Expertise in at least two of the following subfields of linguistics: phonology, syntax, semantics Preferred Qualifications: * At least five years of experience teaching linguistics at the university level * Experience teaching both introductory lecture classes, and specialized classes for major and graduate students * Experience teaching classes in both syntax and phonology * Ability to teach courses on a range of linguistics topics * Course development experience, including experience creating new courses and revising existing courses * Expertise in a particular language or language family * Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in both professional practices and as contributors to an inclusive working and learning environment Pay and Benefits
