Requirements Job Overview In accordance with a detailed cleaning plan, the incumbent performs general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment. Performs other tasks as assigned in emergency or unusual situations. Tasks will be performed with specific guidance from supervisor. Examples of additional work to be performed include but are not limited to snow and ice removal, clean up associated with water or fire damage and special event support. The incumbent is expected to clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per eight hour work day. Performance of duties involves using standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observance of all safety rules, regulations and precautions. Work Interactions This position reports directly to one of the Custodial Supervisors. Incumbent will work alone or with others. The incumbent will perform essential or non-essential tasks as assigned by supervisor. Incumbent will also perform assignments made by the Manager of Custodial Services and/or the Night Operations Manager. Under certain circumstances including but not limited to, emergency snow removal, spills and flooding, the incumbent will perform assignments made by the Work Management Center, the Director of Facilities Management, the Resource Manager, the Infrastructure Manager and other department managers. The incumbent's work constitutes a direct service of the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work. The incumbent represents the department with the University community and its visitors. The incumbent is expected to behave in a professional manner, keep informed of departmental and University rules, regulations and guides pertaining to employment obligations including complying with attendance and clock in and out on time; work with other University Facilities staff as part of a team, be flexible with schedule to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal. Requirements and Qualifications HS or GED preferred One year of custodial work experience is preferred Requires valid and current driver's license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia Requires a basic knowledge of English including the ability to read, write and speak English with understanding in order to read and understand product label instructions and University policies and procedures. Must be able to relate custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisor and/or the Work Management Center. Will be required to complete a training program in building cleaning.
