JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The African American Studies Department at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position starting in Fall 2025. This position is a one-year, non-tenure-line, term appointment with a strong likelihood of renewal. Candidates must have an excellent teaching record and successful teaching experience. An ideal candidate will be able to teach various undergraduate courses on the African American Experience in history, culture, politics, religion, and thought. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching courses focused on women and gender. The teaching load consists of three courses per semester (fall and spring). Onsite teaching is an essential function of this job. A Ph.D. in an African American studies-related field, such as Political Science, English, History, Philosophy, Women/Gender/Sexuality Studies, and other areas within the humanities and social sciences, is required before the effective hire date.
