THE VALUE YOU'LL BRING:

Are you passionate about occupational health and safety? As the Medical Manager, you will lead the charge at delivering exceptional health services within the location. Your role is crucial in promoting a healthy work environment and ensuring the well-being of our employees.

In addition to overseeing daily medical operations, you will take charge of managing workers' compensation claims with precision and care using Smithfield's Workers' Compensation Claims Management Program. Your leadership will drive health excellence and ensure efficient handling of all workers' compensation matter; while overseeing the nursing staff and operation of the clinic.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Medical Care and Compliance: You will direct the provision of medical care for employee illnesses and injuries in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as Smithfield Clinic Protocols. You will also develop and maintain processes to ensure that employee medical and claim records are established, maintained, and compliant with Smithfield policies and procedures and ensure all medical documentation is compliant.

  • Workers' Compensation Management: You will be accountable for the entire workers' compensation process, including intake, medical follow-up, the temporary transitional duty process, the return-to-work program, and the conservative care program, while communicating with key stakeholders, and reviewing workers' compensation costs and monitors claims.

  • Health Promotion and Wellness: You will be responsible for coordinating employee health program activities, including the annual Health and Wellness Fair, flu vaccine campaign, Red Cross Blood Mobile (as needed) and the Mammogram Van (if available).

  • Safety and Training: Your role will ensure successful completion of safety/health programs, including Drug and Alcohol program, Hearing Conservation, Hazmat, Respiratory Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, and CPR/AED/First Aid training.

  • Leadership: Drives a positive employee experience through leadership by way of employee development and coaching.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the nursing, environmental, health and safety or related field and 5+ years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.

  • Current Registered Medical Manager (RN) licensure from the accrediting State government agency in the State of practice, or licensure from an accrediting State government agency in a State that reciprocates licensure through a multi-state compact.

  • The company will consider a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in lieu of an RN with the equivalent combination of education and experience listed above.

  • Current certification in First Aid, CPR and AED.

  • Ability to make strategic decisions while in stressful situations including leading emergency response efforts.

  • Accustomed to working long hours, weekends, and remaining in an on-call status when required.

  • Occasional travel involved to collaborate with others.

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED instructor certification desirable.

  • Occupational Health Nurse/Case Management Certification, preferred

  • CAOHC and NIOSH certifications, preferred

  • Experience in trauma nursing, emergency room or critical care area. preferred

  • Knowledge of workers' compensation processes and incident investigation

  • Demonstrated computer skills, particularly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and company software packages.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedures in English.

  • Effective presentation skills and ability to responds to questions from a diverse audience.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and have strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

  • Noise level in the work environment requires hearing protection.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Indoor and outdoor work environments.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use stairs, some ladder climbing, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear.

  • Work alternate shifts and some weekends.

  • Ability to deliver information to diverse audiences.

  • Fundamental mathematical skills for managing Key Performance Indicators.

  • Embody respect, approachability, and a team-oriented demeanor for fostering robust working relationships and cultivating a positive work environment.

  • Thrive in collaborating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
