Job Description Puget Sound Energy's (PSE) Electric System Planning team seeks a Senior Engineer to join our team as a Distribution Reliability Planner! In this role you will focus on enhancing system reliability and reducing wildfire risk across PSE's 12.5kV and 34.5kV electric distribution system. You will also support new initiatives and technologies, frequently alongside other PSE teams, to modernize PSE's electric grid. Recent examples include supporting Faulted Circuit Indicators, Fusesavers, and working to develop a microgrid strategy to improve reliability. This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on our distribution system's safety and performance. This position serves as a technical leader for the team and is ideal for experienced engineers seeking a role in electric utility engineering. As a Senior Engineer you will provide professional engineering support and technical guidance to more junior engineers, provide technical direction for the team, understand corporate strategy and priorities, and have the ability to present information to technical and non-technical audiences. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE's operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety. Ensures duties are performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations. This job is considered "safety sensitive" as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites. Job Responsibilities Perform reliability studies using tools such as Excel and PowerBI Perform power system simulation and analysis using Synergi Develop, plan, and justify reliability improvement projects for the electric distribution system Mentor junior engineers, engineers-in-training, and other technical staff Coordinate with Planning teams for holistic issue resolution Provide technical support for the operation, construction, and maintenance of PSE assets Review designs to ensure projects achieve the justified benefits and comply with standards and design requirements Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies in electric utility systems that can improve system reliability Collaborate with the Electric System Design engineers to clearly define project scope for improved system reliability Apply engineering principles and practices Support emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field. Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after 8 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual's skill acquisition rates can vary significantly. Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Desired Qualifications Experience working in the utility industry. Possession of a Professional Engineering license. Knowledge of engineering economics, utility accounting practices, and industry standards for electric reliability. Experience leading complex engineering projects related to distribution systems, wildfire mitigation, or grid modernization. Experience working with both internal and external customers on projects. Familiar with codes and equipment utilized in the design and operation of utility systems. Additional Information At PSE we value and respect our employees and provide them opportunities to excel. We offer a competitive compensation and rewards package. The pay range for this position is$104,500.00-$174,100.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
