Description

The Credit Executive is responsible for the credit risk management of the Austin market and the Bank's SBA loan portfolio. This position plays a critical leadership role in maintaining credit quality, mentoring credit staff, and guiding credit decisions to align with the Bank's risk appetite. The Credit Executive serves as a voting member of the Officer's Loan Committee and is accountable for ensuring sound loan structuring, policy adherence, and regulatory compliance across both conventional and SBA portfolios.

The Credit Executive partners closely with the Chief Credit Officer, Market President, SBA Relationship Manager, and Portfolio Managers to proactively manage credit risk, support growth strategies, and ensure consistency in credit underwriting and portfolio monitoring. This role is also responsible for enhancing SBA-specific procedures and becoming a subject matter expert in SBA lending, ensuring the Bank's SBA program aligns with SBA SOP guidance and delivers high-quality credit decisions.

  • Participate as a voting member of the bank's Officer's Loan Committee, which meets weekly and approves loans for relationships between $4 million to $8 million.
  • Cmmunicate regularly with Chief Credit Officer on oversight of assigned loan portfolio, escalating issues timely.
  • Partner with Regional President to approve loans for relationships up to $4 million, utilizing credit policy, general credit acumen, risk appetite, and loan structuring skills to ensure a prudent credit culture.
  • Oversee and remain apprised of regional credit and portfolio management for assigned territory/loan portfolio.
  • Review and provide comments on loan approval reports within individual approval threshold as well as prior to submission to loan committees.
  • Remain proactive in screening deals and recommending loan structures or other solutions to Relationship Managers. Participate in client and prospect calls with Relationship Managers as appropriate.
  • Write and assist in implementing credit policy enhancements.
  • Monitor various reports and assist in early identification of potential credit issues.
  • Ensure adherence to commercial loan policy standards, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable state and federal lending and compliance laws and regulations and implement appropriate policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Participate in rectifying in loan delinquencies and loan servicing matters.
  • Act as a secondary contact to examiners and other loan review third parties.
  • Consult and communicate effectively with internal and external clients as necessary to resolve issues during the loan approval process.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the SBA lending program, serving as the primary credit SME for SBA-guaranteed products. Partner closely with SBA RMs and PMs to refine and implement policies, procedures, and risk management practices aligned with SBA SOP 50 10 and 50 57. Ensure consistent interpretation and application of SBA guidelines across origination, servicing, and liquidation.Assist with Special Assets and work with CCO to enhance work out procedures for the Bank.
  • Travel to headquarters in San Antonio as requested for collaboration with credit cohort.
  • Special projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; MBA or formal credit training preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of commercial credit experience, including direct oversight of underwriting and portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in SBA lending, including origination, servicing, and liquidation processes.
  • Prior experience in a senior credit leadership role, preferably within a multi-market or regional banking environment.
  • Familiarity with credit spreading software (e.g., Abrigo Sageworks), loan policy frameworks, and risk rating systems.
  • Proven track record of policy development and implementation in both conventional and SBA credit environments.
