The Metropolitan Water District's Water System Operations Group has one opening for Operations & Maintenance Technician IV - Mechanical located at the Diemer Treatment Facility (Yorba Linda, CA) in the Water Treatment Section.

This recruitment will be used to build an Eligibility List for the Water Treatment Section at the following locations: Diemer (Yorba Linda, CA), Jensen (Granada Hills, CA), Lake Skinner (Winchester, CA), Mills (Riverside, CA), and Weymouth (La Verne, CA). This list will be valid for 6 months from the date a candidate accepts the position.

As an Operations & Maintenance Technician you will install, maintain, and repair a wide range of water utility and facility mechanical systems. In this journey-level position, you will monitor and inspect mechanical equipment to ensure reliability, perform predictive and diagnostic testing, and conduct preventive and corrective maintenance. You will support operations in conveyance and distribution, treatment plants, and pumping plants by improving equipment performance and upgrading systems to meet service demands.

Key responsibilities in treatment include inspecting, maintaining, and improving the reliability of treatment equipment such as chemical feed systems, ozone generators, flash mixers, flocculators, filter beds, geared drive equipment, sedimentation basins, tanks, valves, pumps, compressors, piping systems, slide gates, chemical transporting and transfer systems, reclamation systems, and sludge removal systems. Operational activities include tasks associated with effective water flow and treatment such as operating valves and performing minor adjustment sand calibrating chemical feed and similar systems. You will also perform maintenance welding, fabrication, and machining; operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, overhead hoists and mobile cranes; perform safe rigging procedures; and adhere to proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and respiratory protection. Additionally, you will use computer programs for individual time entry, maintenance work order tracking, work planning and estimating, and general professional communications.

Schedule: 4/10, Monday - Thursday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM PST

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency in addition to a minimum of 6 years in a mechanical maintenance position in a pump plant, treatment plant, hydroelectric or conveyance and distribution facility or similar environment.

OR

High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency in addition to the attainment of journey level skills through a recognized mechanical trade training program.

Journey level experience as demonstrated by practical application of general and advanced techniques and practices specific to the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems in treatment or pump plants, conveyance and distribution, and/or power generation systems, and related apparatus.

License: Valid California Class C Driver's License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
