THE POSITION

Orange Coast College is seeking a full-time, equity-minded, tenure-track faculty member in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS), commencing with the Fall 2025 semester. The primary teaching assignment involves all areas of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS). This assignment also includes curriculum and program development; participation in department, division, and college committees; participatory governance activities assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; collaboration across disciplines; the leveraging of student support resources; participation in ongoing professional development; and maintaining and performing JRC-DMS required accreditation for the program.

The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid, or off-campus and is subject to change as needed. The Consumer and Health Sciences Division at Orange Coast College serves students bound for transfer and beginning their careers.   • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics with our clinical partners.
  • Responsible for meeting accreditation standards of the Program through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS).
  • Complete the annual report each year and submit to the JRC-DMS.
  • Conduct the DMS Advisory Committee Meeting.
  • Assist and/or function as the DMS Clinical Educator as needed. Maintain clinical documents through the online Trajecsys system.
  • Recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies and coordinate repair of lab equipment to assure program quality, cooperatively with the Cardiovascular Technology Program Director.
  • Develop instructional innovations to ensure program success and reach out to other DMS Program Directors, assist with program outreach, including publicity, community relations, advisory committee membership, and meetings. Review and maintain American Data Bank (ADB) for student onboarding and compliance.
  • Maintains current knowledge of professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development. Through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS).
  • Provide instruction in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) in accordance with established course outlines.
  • Provide leadership in the development and revision of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) curriculum responsive to the students served.
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; participate in and develop programs to measure student performance.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; submit student grades according to established deadlines; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district-wide activities and committees as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid California Community College instructor credential, appropriate to the subject, per Education Code 87355 (issued before July 1, 1990); OR
  • Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience (The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment); OR
  • Any associate degree and six years of professional experience (The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment); OR
  • Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials. Please see "Additional Information" below to determine if you need to submit an Application for Equivalency.

How to determine if you need Equivalency? Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements as stated in the job posting, but feel they have a combination of education and experience that would be equivalent to the State Minimum Qualifications, must attach a completed Application for Equivalency Form. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current and active ARDMS credentials in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) and Abdominal Extended (ABD).
  • Have a current CPR card.
  • A graduate of a CAAHEP-approved DMS Program
  • 10 years in obstetrics, gynecology, and abdominal sonography, including some pediatric applications and superficial structures in the body.
  • Registered in other sonographic specialties such as vascular sonography (RVT), breast (BR), pediatrics (PEDS), or fetal echo (FE).
  • Active involvement in professional organizations (ex., Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS)).

Conditions of Employment

For a full-time, two-semester position, a maximum starting range of ($66,899-$159,488) is offered, based on the salary schedule of AA. In addition, an annual stipend of $3,902 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution. The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents, and life insurance for the employee.

The SELECTED CANDIDATE is required to complete the following before employment:

SELECTION PROCEDURE
