The Position

The Genentech Litigation team is seeking a Senior Litigation Counsel whose passion lies in litigating and advising as a co-owner of the business to enable Genentech to do now what patients need next. As a partner and key business strategist, this individual will have experience in managing complex litigations and other adversarial proceedings in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related life science industry.

This position is based onsite at our South San Francisco, California campus and is not suitable for a fully-remote working arrangement. Relocation benefits are available for this job posting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities of this role include the following:

  • Managing an active and varied caseload of litigations, appeals, and other adversarial proceedings, while advising on substantive legal strategy with foresight and appropriate risk tolerance.

  • Partnering closely with business clients and legal department colleagues to advise on a range of strategic issues while using a practical and business-minded approach.

  • Developing strategies to avoid or resolve regional, national, and international disputes, including directly negotiating settlements.

  • Counseling on multi-jurisdictional litigations or other proceedings, including coordinating with counterparts in the US and around the world.

  • Contributing to cross-functional or departmental projects and teams in Legal.

  • Working effectively in teams and with a cross-section of stakeholders within Genentech and Roche.

  • Ability to travel in conjunction with managing and resolving disputes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of litigation experience, with experience in directly managing complex adversarial matters in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related life science industry.

  • A law degree (J.D.) and current "good standing" admission to at least one U.S. state bar

  • Trial experience preferred.

  • General experience in litigation in the life sciences, including but not limited to commercial contract disputes, IP litigations, FCA matters, APA litigations, and/or product liability cases.

  • Experience in an in-house setting is preferred, but not required.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is$203,800 and $378,400. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
