Job Description

WGL - Materials Engineer I (Mechanical, Chemical , Materials , Industrial Engineering)

Washington Gas has an immediate opening for a Materials Engineer. This is great opportunity for a recent or upcoming college Grad.

You Will:
* First: to understand the composition of the natural gas network and the design principles that govern it's construction, operations, and maintenance.

* Analyzes new and alternative materials that are proposed by Company, Contractor, or Vendor personnel.
* Writes summary reports of material evaluations, and recommends the incorporation or denial of items into the Company inventory and/or natural gas system.
* Assists with the operations of the materials testing laboratory, where extracted piping and components from the field are examined for defects, and newly proposed or alternative materials are analyzed for form, fit, and function.
* Performs engineering analyses of operational characteristics of materials, such as flow capacities, pressure drops, strength, impact resistance, etc.
* Reviews technical data sheets and material safety data sheets to determine product suitability within the natural gas system.
* Evaluates installation and operations practices as they occur in the field.
* Coordinates pilot evaluations of products with various business units, and may perform site visits as materials are installed and maintained.
* Coordinates vendor visits to review product lines and new technologies.
* Assists with the writing of engineering standards and specifications.

* Performs research related to the root cause of material failures.
* Writes summary reports of findings from material failure research. Reports will be filed as part of a federal requirement to analyze accidents and failures.
* Develops and delivers presentations to report project statuses to various audiences.

You Have:
* Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering field required
* 0-2 years experience in engineering, industrial processes, and/or materials testing.
* Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners.
* Demonstrated ability to logically analyze and solve narrowly-defined business problems.
* Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write and present logically and concisely to all levels within an organization.
* Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, for data management, research, analysis and reporting purposes.
* Demonstrated ability to participate in a multiple person team on a college project prior to graduation.

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000.00 to $94,250.00 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
