Description

The School of Medicine seeks a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven Grants and Business Development Manager to join our team. This role will be responsible for identifying and pursuing funding opportunities, securing grants, and fostering strategic partnerships to support the School's academic and research programs. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of strategy development, proposal management, securing grants in the medical or academic field, exceptional communication and negotiation skills, and a strong ability to cultivate and maintain partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

Incumbent will be the lead staff for the SIU Medicine Strategic Growth Committee. The SIU Medicine Strategic Growth Committee (SGC) is established to guide the development of strategic initiatives and ensure physician and organizational alignment with long-term goals. The SGC provides strategic oversight, reviews market analyses, reviews proposed strategic growth initiatives, recommends resources, monitors performance and fosters integration and collaboration to drive sustainable growth.


Examples of Duties

Grants Management - 25%

1. Identify, research, and pursue external funding opportunities from government agencies, private foundations, corporate sponsors, and other relevant sources.

2. Write and submit grant proposals, ensuring they are well-researched, compelling, and in alignment with the School's strategic goals.

3. Manage the grant application process, including proposal development, submission, and post-award compliance.

4. Track and report on grant funding, maintaining accurate records of all submissions and outcomes.

Grants Compliance and Reporting -25%

1. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and policies related to grant submissions and business development activities.

2. Provide regular reports on the status of grant applications, awarded funding, and partnership development.

Proposal and Business Case Management - 25%

1. Lead the development, writing, and submission of compelling business proposals and business cases, ensuring alignment with funder/partner priorities, institutional strategy, and clinical growth opportunities.

2. Oversee proposal and business case development timelines, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions.

3. Coordinate with internal teams (finance, legal, operations, project management and clinical leadership) to gather necessary data and insights for proposals and business cases.

4. Maintain a repository of standardized proposal content, success stories, impact metrics, and business case templates to support educational and clinical expansion initiatives.

Strategic Planning and Business Development - 25%

1. Collaborate with faculty, clinical leadership, and research teams to identify funding needs and business opportunities that support clinical service line expansion.

2. Provide insights into emerging trends in the market, healthcare service models, and industry partnerships.

3. Develop and execute strategies to expand the school's funding base, drive clinical growth, and enhance financial sustainability.

4. Staff and provide administrative support to the Strategic Growth Committee, ensuring the effective evaluation, planning, and execution of clinical business proposals and service line expansions.

5. Assist in the development of market intelligence and environmental scan reports that support strategic planning, scenario building and business development.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master's preferred).

  • Minimum of five years of work experience writing or managing grants and/or contracts and growing business development portfolios for strategic growth.
