Johns Hopkins University Press seeks an Accounting Specialist who will be responsible for the daily cash management of the Hopkins Press. The Accounting Specialist will join a team of exceptional professionals committed to bringing the benefits of discovery to the world by providing global access, impact, and influence for the scholarship that we publish and distribute. This position will help to ensure that the Press is a leader in selecting and developing innovative ideas and scholarship, creating and embracing transformative technologies to enhance discovery and learning, and connecting people to the most trusted knowledge from global researchers, scholars, and educators.

Posting and balancing of cash, credit card and wire payments to JHUP accounting system, allocate payments to appropriate divisions, reconcile cash and accounts receivable accounts between TMS, SAP, and banking systems, responsible for reconciling credit card transactions from vendors, maintain Excel wire information worksheet and clear amounts with four divisions, perform a variety of account activities related to the payment and receipt of money, process journal vouchers in both TMS and SAP, research and resolve discrepancies related to sales, cash and adjustments in accounts receivable reconciliation. This position reports to the Financial Operations Manager.

The starting salary range for this position is $35,490 to $50,700. Actual salary is based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Record weekly and monthly journal entries to two independent general accounting systems and two sub-ledger systems for cash, credit, and wire entries.
  • Reconcile discrepancies between bank and general ledger systems.
  • Review Cash Journals.
  • Maintain wire log.
  • Post general ledger entries for postage, copyrights, and allocations.
  • Upload monthly SAP transactions to TMS system.
  • Act as liaison between JHU Treasury and the Press regarding cash issues.
  • Support Independent Contractor payment processing
  • Reconcile Rights and Permissions receipts.
  • Other duties as capacity allows.

  • Microsoft suite products, with an emphasis on Excel.
  • General ledger experience (TMS and SAP) and the ability to work simultaneously in separate systems.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
