The Opportunity

Genentech, a world leader in biotechnology, is seeking an innovative Cell Line Development (CLD) Senior Scientist within the Cell Culture and Bioprocess Operations (CCBO) department. The successful candidate will generate CHO cell lines expressing therapeutic antibodies, bispecific antibodies, and complex biologics. These cell lines are used for the clinical and commercial manufacturing of therapies in Genentech's pipeline. The successful candidate will be responsible for successfully utilizing and improving Genentech's industry-leading targeted integration CLD platform. This position requires mastery of cellular and molecular biology concepts and techniques.

What You'll Do

  • Execute CLD Projects: Execute cell line development projects from plasmid DNA construction and transfection through to lead clone selection and cell banking.

  • Technical Leadership: Provide scientific and technical leadership in CLD and CCBO, collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.

  • Innovation and Strategy: Identify and develop innovative CLD strategies and technologies to maintain Genentech's leadership position in biopharmaceutical development.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all CLD activities comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, preparing documentation for regulatory submissions as needed.

  • Data Analysis: Analyze complex datasets to inform decision-making and refine CLD processes.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments including Antibody Engineering, Cell Culture Process Development, Purification Development, Analytical Development, Regulatory and Quality to ensure seamless integration of CLD activities with overall project objectives.

Who You Are

  • Education: MS (3-5 years) or PhD (0-3 years) in Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field.

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in mammalian cell line development.

  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement. Pioneers new methods/technologies to radically simplify and improve processes.

  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein expression systems, gene editing tools, protein analytics, high-throughput screening techniques

  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of regulatory requirements for biologics development and experience with filing regulatory documents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CLD Expertise: Proven track record of executing and leading successful CLD projects

  • Experience with technologies to enable screening or selection of cells producing bispecific antibodies and complex biologics with high assembly.

  • Experience with gene editing technologies (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9).

  • Prior experience in a leading biopharma company.

  • Publications or patents in the field of cell line development and related technologies.

  • Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) environments.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $104700 - $194400.. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
