Senior Project Assistant: Community Service Division



General Function

The primary duties are creation of an Iowa Practice Opportunities Directory through data collection and data manipulation. The student will also undertake special projects and provide administrative support on other health care management tasks as required.

Only students that have been accepted as an incoming first-year student for the University of Iowa Masters of Health Administration program for the fall of 2025 will be considered as a candidate for this position.


Typical Duties

  1. Create the Iowa Directory of Medical Practice Opportunities through survey preparation and mailing to Iowa physicians in seven specialties and all physician assistants and advanced nurse practitioners in all specialties and their potential employers statewide.
  2. Data entry, phone clarifications of survey data; and subsequent creation of directory and distribution of directory
  3. Multiple data follow-up projects.
  4. Participate in Physician Contract Review Service.
  5. Create community profiles, practice opportunity description and preceptorship descriptions for healthcare organizations within the state of Iowa.
  6. Correspond with physicians and communities regarding physician placement and retention.
  7. Participate in meetings and provide project support the UI-Affiliated Family Practice Residency Programs and Iowa Family Medicine Residents Council as schedule permits.
  8. Participate in community/medical practice development, and marketing research meetings in Iowa communities (as schedule permits).
  9. Other duties, projects and reports as assigned.
  10. Projects of special interest to the student and independent study can be arranged as appropriate.
  11. Commit as OSCEP graduate research assistant appointment for the 2025-26 academic year.



Supervision

The Community Services Division Director/Associate Director of OSCEP will provide general administrative supervision and advice on all project work.



Qualifications

  1. Incoming first-year graduate student in the University of Iowa Masters of Health Administration program for the fall of 2025at the University of Iowa required.
  2. Attention to detail and accuracy is critical.
  3. Excellent communication skills in multiple mediums and ability to work on teams.
  4. Recent routine experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  5. Previous work in health care and health care administration.
  6. Must be available during regular working hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
  7. Requiring 40 work hours per week in summer session and 15-20 hours a week (includes 10 hour per week for GRA) in the fall/spring academic sessions.
