Overview:

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the largest science and energy laboratory under the US Department of Energy, is dedicated to conducting advanced research addressing critical challenges in energy and security. The Integrated Building Performance and Analysis (IBDA) group leads the development of innovative methods for residential and commercial whole-building energy performance and systems integration, deployment, and analysis in support of the DOE mission. Staff members lead and participate on teams focused on research, development, and deployment (RD&D) of energy-efficient, demand-flexible, and resilient buildings for the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Building Technologies Office (BTO), the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), and the State and Community Energy Program (SCEP). We are currently seeking a skilled Project Specialist who will be mainly working with FEMP. This role involves leading project management efforts and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Oversee project management and milestone reporting for substantial projects with interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Develop and deliver various technical materials, such as reports, newsletters, articles, announcements, and visual content.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, addressing issues and tracking resolutions.
  • Collaborate with research staff and partner organizations to establish programs that cultivate robust relationships with industry stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams, monitoring progress towards specific goals and milestones. This includes data management and task tracking.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS / BA degree in a scientific, engineering or business-related field with a minimum of five years of industry/work experience.
  • Instructional Designer Skills
    • Advance knowledge of adult learning theory, training development practices in a virtual and performance-based environment to produce effective compliant engaging training products.
    • Proven expertise in the design and development of online courses that are functional, informative, polished, and consistent with foundational instructional design/adult learning science principles, including the alignment of educational objectives with content, learning activities, and assessments.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of working independently, setting goals/deadlines, and contributing creatively to collaborative teams.
  • Highly organized with strong interpersonal skills (both oral and written) for regular interactions with Laboratory staff, sponsors, industry, and academia.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including prior experience in drafting professional reports and public-facing documents.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced research environment, setting priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with building energy and water optimization products or processes, energy performance contracts and/or utility programs.
  • Experience in implementing or administering learning management systems (LMS).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify the underlying motivations/goals of diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Background in training and/or training development.
  • Background in digital media and engagement materials.
  • Experience with building energy and water optimization products or processes, energy performance contracts and/or utility programs.
  • Develops compliant, engaging, and complex multimedia training for diverse audiences using established training analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) methods.
  • Knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 508 compliance and how it pertains to accessibility of web content.
  • Demonstrates high level software skills in the applications such as Articulate StoryLine 3/360, Microsoft Office, and relevant Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proven success in connecting divergent stakeholder groups to support common goals.
  • MS degree in a scientific or business-related field with a minimum of four years of industry/work experience.

This is a temporary 9-month position. The appointment length will be up to 9 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
