The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.

The Maryland Transit Administration is recruiting for an Assistant Chief Safety Officer - Investigations to lead and oversee the Safety Event Investigation Program within MTA's Office of Safety Management and Risk Control (Office of Safety). This role is responsible for investigating safety events, identifying findings that require corrective actions or improvement plans, analyzing data and trends, and determining probable and root causes to prevent reoccurrence.

This position provides direct supervision to the Investigations Unit within the Office of Safety, which consists of three Safety Officers. Additionally, the role is responsible for maintaining the MTA Safety Event Investigation Handbook and other related procedures. The position also supports Safety Assurance components of MTA's Safety Management System (SMS), as required by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

MTA - Manager Safety Responsibilities:
Managers are expected to promote a positive safety culture by leading with integrity and establishing safety practices and procedures for all employees within their departments. Managers should attend and participate in safety meetings and enforce all safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Managers must ensure that employees are properly trained and equipped with the appropriate personal protective equipment to perform their job duties safely. They are responsible for immediately reporting hazards, unsafe acts, near misses, injuries, and accidents to the Office of Safety. Managers must work collaboratively to address and mitigate reported hazards in a timely manner and conduct safety risk assessments and/or job hazard analyses as necessary.


Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher-ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.


Licenses & Certifications

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
