ITC Federal is seeking a Systems Engineer with a strong background in Windows infrastructure and cloud administration to support our growing hybrid IT environment at the NCCoE. This role is designed for a hands-on engineer with expertise in system architecture, on-premise infrastructure, and cloud-based technologies. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in managing and optimizing our hybrid infrastructure while providing key support to cloud initiatives.

Established in 2012 through a partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the State of Maryland and Montgomery County, the (NCCoE) is dedicated to furthering innovation through the rapid identification, integration and adoption of practical Cybersecurity solutions. The NCCoE is part of the NIST Information Technology Laboratory and operates in close collaboration with the Computer Security Division.



Responsibilities

    Design, implement, and maintain Windows-based infrastructure, ensuring high availability and security.
  • Support hybrid cloud architecture, assisting in the transition and integration of on-premise systems with cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with the cloud team to provide administrative support for cloud-based solutions, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to develop infrastructure solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot system performance, ensuring timely resolution of issues across on-prem and cloud environments.
  • Provide backup support for cloud operations, ensuring continuity in the absence of key personnel.
  • Document system configurations and processes, ensuring knowledge transfer and operational efficiency.


Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering with a focus on Windows infrastructure.
  • Experience designing and managing hybrid on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud), including administration and management.
  • Strong expertise in Active Directory, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and networking fundamentals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize system performance across hybrid environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable presenting and interacting with senior management to address concerns and update project progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and offer outside-the-box solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and a focus on high-quality outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and collaboration skills.

DESIRED:

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Microsoft Azure Administrator, or similar.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible) and DevOps methodologies.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for hybrid cloud environments.
  • Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, or similar) is a plus.
