SUMMARY

Provides basic technological and engineering support to the plant's fire protection facilities, equipment, production processes, and products to provide continuous improvement in the areas of safety, quality, and value.Training is provided on the job with progressively more challenging assignments and responsibilities as the individual demonstrates his or her ability to progress.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Suggests improvements and repairs to fire protection infrastructure.

  • Coordinates proof testing of over 140 fire suppression systems at the LC South facility along with the maintenance of the firewater system (over 500 hydrants, PIVs, monitors, two electrical pumps and five diesel pumps)

  • Works closely with ER superintendent and Emergency Response Specialists to assist in any fire protection or emergency needs at the LC South facility.

  • Directly supervises contracted fire protection system employees to ensure that all fire protection equipment compliance requirements are met.

  • Coordinate with other Westlake employees and contractors for system repairs including intake screens and piping systems.

  • Works with capital engineering group on projects and upgrades.

  • Manage work orders and purchase orders for the Emergency Response department in SAP

  • Manage fire extinguisher inspection programs at LC North and South facilities.

  • Develop and maintain firewater systems model with updated drawings through engineering department and coordinating annual pump flow tests.

  • Maintain infrastructure that protects pumps and emergency response equipment.

  • Accountable for projects and initiatives assigned commensurate with experience.

  • Actively develops a working knowledge of Westlake Chemical technologies, processes and plant operations to facilitate growth in technical skills and capabilities.

  • Maintain information (files and documentation) for plant process, equipment and technology.

  • Serve as Maintenance Coordinator for the Health & Safety Department.

  • Assist ER Superintendent in managing allocated budget through tracking and reporting

  • Work closely with other maintenance departments or contractors to maintain PM programs for the firewater system pumps, diesel engines, instruments, and control systems.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred with Industrial experience

  • College GPA of at least 3.0 and authorization to work permanently in the US

  • Previous co-op or internship experience preferred

  • Familiar with commonly used applications related to their Engineering discipline

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
