The Pentagon and Multi-Domain Division provides the technical analyses needed to inform and underpin decisions made by senior leaders within the Department of Defense (DoD). We address a broad range of Department of the Air Force issues to help shape current and future DoD missions, taking on challenging problems on behalf of our DoD customers in areas such as emerging technologies, operational analysis, architecture, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction.

The Joint and Multi-Domain Programs Subdivision provides leadership on a diverse portfolio of work, including technical expertise and analysis-based decision support to senior leaders within the military services, the combatant commands, and multiple DoD agencies. This position will support the Department of Air Force Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communication, and Battle Management (DAF PEO C3BM) to integrate Mission Engineering with enterprise portfolio management to support the DAF Force Design process. Mission Engineering (ME) encompasses the full technical effort to analyze, design, and integrate current and emerging operational needs and capabilities to achieve desired mission outcomes. This position will inform the development of ME models, guide the development of strategy and processes by which ME informs key DAF enterprise decisions, and interface ME models and processes with other Headquarters Air Force decision-making tools.

Work Model

This position will be a hybrid work model, which will require on-site work and offer partially remote n Arlington, VA (Crystal City) or Chantilly, VA, as the business needs allow.

    What You'll Be Doing

    • Systematically align and decompose mission outcomes, requirements, and capabilities through Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches
    • Develop architectural frameworks for integrated program development
    • Map the above elements to a shared data repository and ontology
    • Integrate mission engineering with strategy development and capability development oversight
    • Create, collect, and federate models to describe DAF enterprise
    • Interface mission models with external authoritative data sources
    • Set requirements for MBSE tool interfaces with other applications/capabilities
    • Identify model management best practices and inform Air Force Futures mission engineering process
    • Federate mission engineering models and analyze force structures / force designs

    What You Need to be Successful - Senior Project Engineer, Enterprise Systems Engineering

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in STEM, with an emphasis in Systems Engineering or other sciences/engineering discipline
    • 12 or more years of relevant experience modeling complex systems and enterprise architectures
    • Knowledge of SysML application
    • Experience with UAF / UAFML; experience with MBSE tools like Cameo or Sparx
    • Experience with interfacing MBSE tools with external tools or programs (e.g., interfacing with python scripts)
    • Some travel is required
    • Experience with developing mission architectures (defining mission activities, systems, capabilities, performance measures and attributes, etc.)
    • Experience with application of MBSE modeling tools for systems engineering application
    • This position requires a current TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued

    • Advanced degree in STEM, with an emphasis Systems Engineering or other sciences/engineering discipline
    • Experience with model federation and standardization
    • Experience with Cameo / Sparx plugin development
    • Hands-on experience creating mission threads or mission engineering threads in support of real or proposed missions
    • Systems design experience
    • Understanding of enterprise portfolio management
    • Experience with AFSIM and other DAF simulation tools
    • Familiarity with DAF and/or DoD strategy and capabilities
    • Operations research background
