TheDirector of Capability will play a critical leadership role in driving Community & State capability strategy, development, and management across the lifecycle. This position will directly lead and mentor a team of Capability Managers, and will partner with senior leadership, IT teams, clinical leads, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment of capabilities with business strategies. The Director will ensure that capability roadmaps are informed by market trends, customer needs, and enterprise priorities while driving sustainable, financially sound solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

In this role, you will oversee capability management across the entire lifecycle, from strategic planning to execution and operationalization. Specific responsibilities include:



  • Capability Strategy & Planning


    • Monitor external market trends, competitive landscapes, and technology advancements to inform capability strategies and identify innovative opportunities
    • Develop and drive thevision, strategy, and roadmapin alignment with enterprise and business strategies
    • Partner with senior leadership, clinical leads, IT, and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with broader C&S goals
    • Lead the creation of business cases for new capabilities, including cost/benefit analyses, KPIs, and financial models


  • Capability Development & Prioritization


    • Oversee theend-to-end capability management process, including intake, refinement, and prioritization of initiatives
    • Champion the use ofAgile development methodologiesto ensure smooth handoffs and collaboration between capability management and technical execution teams
    • Manage and prioritize aportfolio of capabilities, including cross-business and enterprise-wide initiatives


  • Execution & Operationalization


    • Collaborate with Agile Product Owners, IT Delivery Leads, and Solutions Architects to ensure capabilities are executed effectively and deliver measurable business outcomes
    • Driveadoption of capabilitiesby internal stakeholders and ensure alignment with customer and business needs
    • Monitorcapability performancepost-implementation to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness, and make recommendations for enhancements or de-investments


  • Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement


    • Build and lead a high-performing team of Capability Managers and Product Strategists, providing mentorship and career development opportunities
    • Serve as a key advisor and thought leader to senior leadership, presenting data-driven insights and recommendations
    • Foster productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and collaboration across enterprise functions

Required Qualifications:



  • 6+ years of experience in capability management, product management, or a related field, with a focus onstrategic planning and execution
  • Experience working ingovernment-related health care or clinical environments
  • Advanced skills inMicrosoft Office
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship management skills, including the ability toinfluence and align stakeholdersacross multiple levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in amatrixed organization
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and navigateambiguityeffectively



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience deliveringcomplex solutionsin a matrixed environment
  • Experience incost/benefit analysis development, capital business processes, and KPIs for capability performance
  • Working knowledge ofrelational databases, data structures, and data mapping
  • Solid proficiency inAgile development methodologiesand tools such as Aha, Rally or Jira
  • Subject Matter Expertise in currentCare Management Applicationsand regulatory environments
  • Proven problem-solving skills with acontinuous improvement mindset

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
