Job Description
General Responsibilities:
As a Senior Project Manager - Transportation and Infrastructure with Terracon, you'll provide geotechnical engineering and consulting services for a wide variety of transportation and infrastructure (T&I) sector projects and clients across Texas.
This may include performing and/or leading geotechnical and pavement-focused field investigations, engineering analysis and design, calculations, and recommendations, and preparing and reviewing related reports; tracking and evaluating project progress and budgets; researching, resolving, and providing solutions for design and construction issues; and applying sound engineering principles to communicate complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards on all projects, lead pre-task planning, and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- Manage and execute all aspects of projects of varying size and complexity, including large-scale and complex T&I projects.
- Prepare proposals, reports, and other project related documents for small to large projects of varying complexity.
- Work closely with senior engineers and program managers to gain progressive management and technical experience for T&I sector projects.
- Independently lead a variety of projects or selected segments of larger projects under the guidance of program management.
- Develop and lead the scope of work for small to large-sized T&I projects. Support and eventually lead the scope of work for progressively larger and more complex T&I projects.
- Lead interactions with clients and stakeholders to ensure their goals are being considered in execution of the work.
- Design, communicate, and implement a project plan for completing a project on schedule, within scope and budget.
- Lead safety efforts including preparation of and compliance with an approved safety plan.
- Resolve operational problems and minimize delays.
- Identify, develop, and gather necessary resources to complete the project.
- Prepare technical reports, designs, and work specifications; develop schedules, budgets and forecasts; select materials, equipment, project staff, and subcontractors.
- Estimate costs, resources, and time required to complete projects.
- Monitor activities, allocate resources, and assign tasks to ensure targets are met.
- Partner with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for the project.
- Conduct project meetings and prepare progress reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team.
- Coach and mentor project staff and assist them to solve problems.
- Coordinate with Authorized Project Reviewer to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for quality review of deliverables.
- Coordinates with accounting for financial management of business intelligence, invoicing, and collections.
- Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to manage project risk to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
- Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
- Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices. Engage APRs on projects at their onset.
- Conduct, coordinate, or oversee geotechnical field investigations, laboratory testing, and evaluation of respective data.
- Analyze data, perform geotechnical engineering calculations and analysis, and make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications for inclusion in reports.
- Review project plans and proposed construction methods to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Interact directly with client and project team on developing scope of services, communicating project progress and findings and recommendations.
- Respond to geotechnical-related construction RFIs related to T&I projects.
- Perform intermediate quality control review of proposals, reports, and other project related documents written by others.
- Supervise staff including junior engineers, engineering technicians, exploration teams, laboratory staff, and other support personnel for execution of project-related tasks.
- Collaborate with offices across Texas to execute projects and deliver consistently excellent services for our T&I clients and partners.
- Support marketing and business development efforts with a focus on T&I pursuits and clients.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Master's degree in Engineering preferred.
- 10+ years' experience preferred.
- Experience in management and execution of transportation and infrastructure projects is strongly preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Texas required.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
