Patient Safety Consultant

General Summary of Position
Working under the direction of the AVP Quality & HRO, the Patient Safety Consultant focuses on the overall management of patient safety program, event reviews and data analysis. Analyzes clinical processes, identifies potential risks for patients, and develops strategies to maximize safety, effectiveness and efficiency. Is responsible for the delivery of High Reliability and patient safety education, utilizing best practice strategies and methods within safety science to improve all aspects of safe patient care delivery, quality of care, and risk mitigation. Oversees the development and implementation of medical error reduction strategies in collaboration with all departments and patient care areas.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads event reviews for all serious safety events in conjunction with the risk and quality management team.
  • Analyzes patient safety data to identify safety event trends.
  • Performs Common Cause Analyses of serious safety events.
  • Participates in committees focusing on patient safety issues.
  • Provides HRO and Safety Training for new associates.
  • Manages the Safety Coach program.
  • Leads the hospital High Reliability and Safety Committee.
  • Creates and delivers patient safety education based on needs identified from safety event data.
  • Monitors compliance with event review action plans.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Patient Experience on the review and response to patient complaints involving patient safety issues.
  • Provides guidance to clinicians on optimizing the use of the patient safety event reporting system.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree preferably in nursing or related healthcare field. required
    • Master's degree in Nursing, Business, or other related field preferred

    Experience

    • 5-7 years of clinical healthcare experience, preferably with a focus on patient safety required


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of accrediting, regulatory, and licensing standards and processes is preferred.

    This position has a hiring range of $70,428 - $131,310
