We're looking for a full-time, staff Principal Electrical Engineer

to join ourDay & Zimmermannteam located in eitherGreenville SC, Charlotte NC, or Remote.

As the Principal Electrical Engineer, here's the work you'll do:

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be leading electrical engineering efforts within Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects. The Principal Electrical Engineer is expected to function in a discipline leadership role overseeing the development of electrical engineering deliverables, engineering design criteria, specifications, proposals, scope document, engineering budget, and schedule on various sized projects and complexity. Operating with minimal oversight, this role manages project execution, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and integrates electrical design solutions into overall project workflows. Responsibilities include technical leadership, design optimization, regulatory compliance, and team mentorship, with the ability to provide support to the Electrical Department Manager when required.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee electrical engineering designs activities across multiple EPC projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project-specific criteria while optimizing for constructability and efficiency.
  • Reviews and approves all engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications for compliance with established procedures, design standards and project requirements. Responsible for technical content and quality of discipline engineering for assigned projects. Reviews project design regularly to ensure compliance with design standard and criteria.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, procurement, vendors, subcontractors, and construction personnel to integrate electrical engineering solutions seamlessly into overall project execution, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery
  • Provide front-line supervision of engineers and designers, offering technical guidance, mentoring, and performance oversight to drive team effectiveness and professional development.
  • Assist in departmental operations, resource management, and strategic planning. Establishes and reviews work plans, staffing requirements and schedules for assigned team and project. Establishes staffing requirements based on active and anticipated workloads for assigned team.

This role is for you if you have these skills:

  • Well versed in industrial and power plant electrical design practices with well in-depth understanding of medium and low voltage electrical distribution including, but not limited to, power generation, power distribution, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, protective relaying, and heat tracing. Experience in applying industry codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, NEMA, NFPA, NETA Std.). In[1]depth knowledge of electrical design practices for Class I and II areas (classified for gas and dust).
  • Experience in effective project execution practices and application of project procedures; Multidiscipline team player with a strong understanding of the full EPC project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, front-end engineering design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Strong ability to oversee and spearhead the electrical design for large-scale projects ensuring compliance with industry standards, budget constraints, and timelines while leading multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit and Microstation; Experienced in the use of electrical system modeling software such as SKM and/or ETAP to perform power system analysis studies (Ground calculation, short circuit, coordination, arc flash, thermal calc, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders at all levels, resolve engineering challenges proactively, and drive innovation in design, procurement strategies, and construction methodologies to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Required
  • 12+ Years detail engineering experience
  • PE Required
  • Ability to successfully pass background screening process.


In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the wage range for this role is $136,400 - $204,600. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
