Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).


General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Cost Estimator will oversee the completions of estimates for assigned projects within assigned discipline. Familiar with complex concepts, practices, and procedures within area of responsibility. Relies on multiple years of experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

The EPM Estimating team supports a wide range of projects across the company, including Electric Supply, Electric Deliverability, Gas Deliverability, Facilities, and Renewable Energy. We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team, focusing on renewable development and electric economic development estimating. This role involves project estimating, EPC estimating, financial modeling and due diligence research to ensure the success of our renewable energy initiatives and economic projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of cost estimates, at various phases of project life cycle, for assigned projects and programs
  • Lead, analyze,and compare project estimate costs to project actuals to formulate variance explanation
  • Break down complex contractor quotes and proposals to identify variances
  • Oversee final estimate reports and supporting documents for project team
  • Provide documentation for estimate reviews with engineering and project teams
  • Drive communications with cross-functional teams to understand and obtain project requirements and identify risk
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to understand and obtain project requirements
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Understanding of assigned discipline
  • Estimating techniques and cost
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills to envision entire project scope
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and requirements
  • Basic knowledge of project management processes
  • Able to manage multiple projects concurrently with ability to multitask
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Suite, Estimating systems, and SAP

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in project management, business, or related field with four (4) or more years of experience in estimating, project controls, construction management, or accounting

    • [OR] Associate's degreein project management, business, or related field with six (6) or more years of experience in estimating, project controls, construction management, or accounting
    • [OR] High School Diploma/GEDwith eight (8) or more years of experience in estimating, project controls, construction management, or accounting
