Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager role at our Avon Lake, OH location as part of the plant leadership team, supports plant manufacturing while maintaining a strong focus on safety, continuous improvement and equipment performance and optimization. The manager provides direct supervision, training and evaluation of the site process engineers. Using engineering principles and acceptable industry standards, designs, develops and optimizes processes, methodologies, equipment, and facilities to meet ever-changing customer expectations.

Essential Functions:

* Provide ongoing information and assistance to the Avon Lake plant safety program regarding the safe operation of all equipment. This particularly applies to the company's LockOut-TagOut program and all related operational safety requirements and considerations.
* Responsibility for identifying and contracting with the best service providers on scopes of work that exceed the company's in-house capabilities.
* Responsible for improving processes and equipment to drive uptime and productivity across the site.
* Will develop new processes for new products. This may be new designs of products, or using new materials for current designs, or utilizing new equipment. Must be able to pick appropriate tooling for the design and materials used, and modify tooling as required to increase performance.
* Evaluate and optimize processes and equipment to generate cost savings, and improve quality, efficiency and productivity.
* Develop new processes, research emerging technologies, and execute characterization and optimization studies of current processes using design of experiments, root cause analysis, troubleshooting and decision making tools.
* Identifying and resolving equipment/material/training/process issues, and coordinating activities of maintenance, quality, production and other resources to execute cost effective solutions.
* Partners with Avient's Leadership Development Programs to build engineering talent.
* Provide subject matter expertise to other departments and technical mentorship.
* Other duties as assigned.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to:
  • moving mechanical parts
  • fumes or airborne particles
  • noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office noise levels to loud noise
  • Employees are required to wear mandatory PPE which include:
  • hearing protection when on production floor
  • steel toe shoes/boots when on production floor
  • uniforms
  • specific gloves when performing specific tasks
