Position Description:

Shortage of healthcare workers is one the greatest problems that we face today, particularly in under-resourced and rural communities. As the shortage worsens, competition among employers for workers will increase so organizations can fill the necessary roles and keep operations functioning. Recruiting methods will target health professionals as well as pre-professionals, those who will be part of the next generation of a diverse healthcare workforce.

To be successful, organizations must be creative and utilize tools to develop mentoring relationships with students when they first express an interest in healthcare, as early as high school. Therefore, American Medical Pathway Honors Program (AMP) AMPHonors.com was created as a free social networking website and app for students interested in healthcare careers. AMP helps high school students discover the numerous rewarding healthcare careers, connect to near-peer mentors, and join a supportive digital community with a common purpose.

The long-term sustainability of AMP as an accessible resource for students and educators will depend upon continued membership growth and a revenue model of sponsors and sponsored content. Dr. Andrew Klein is seeking medical students to help build, mentor, and moderate a digital community of Wisconsin high school students interested in health careers. The project starts January 1st and lasts one year. The time commitment would be about 2 hours per week. Some of the responsibilities would include advising the high school students, sharing your education journey with them via Zoom in a group or one-on-one setting, assisting in content creation relevant to health careers, and moderating discussions.

Hours/week: $18/hour x 2 hours/week x 52 weeks = $1,872
Quarterly Payments: $468 x 4 payments = $1,872
