The Department of Epidemiology in the Milken Institute School of Public Health (
GWU
SPH) at George Washington University is conducting several
HIV studies and is engaged in both experimental and observational research.
The Department is seeking a full time Research Scientist (RS) to help analyze and disseminate scholarship related to these studies. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigators and delegates, the RS will be responsible for analysis and dissemination of a variety of data using appropriate analytic methods. The RS will also help support training, mentoring, and coordinating functions within the DC Clinical Trials Unit's two clinical research sites and the DC
CTU. The RS will also support and coordinate the DC Health collaboration National
HIV Behavioral Surveillance Study and other research activities as they become available. The RS must have experience with implementation, management, and analysis of qualitative research including instrument development, key informant interviews, focus groups, and thematic/qualitative analysis. The successful candidate will be given mentoring and opportunities to develop K- or R-series
NIH proposals as well as institutional (or other) pilot award proposals.
Job Duties:
- Conducting or supporting HIV-related research including convening and leading collaborative groups, developing new ideas, leading and conducting analyses, and submitting papers for publication and scholarly dissemination
- Engagement in DC CTU, HIV Prevention Trials Network Clinical Research Site, and NHBS training, management, and coordination
- Develop independent research with mentorship of participating faculty

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Master's degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Meticulous research skills are required to function in this high intensity research environment and the ideal candidate has experience functioning at a leadership level within a multidisciplinary research setting.
- Strong experience in biostatistics and epidemiological methods and study management.
- Strong programming skills in R, MPlus, Stata and/or SAS.
- Experience with standard analytic analyses and/or structural equation modeling.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in NIH-funded multi-center HIV prevention clinical trials and/or CDC-funded community-based studies.
