THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION

Must be available to work June 9th through August 29th from 8:30am - 4:00pm.

Position Summary

The purpose of the Day Camp Counselor is to be a positive and trustworthy leader to the youth of the community, connecting youth and parents to the Kroc Center. They will lead the youth in the summer camp by facilitating daily programming to fulfill the vision of the Kroc Center. The Day Camp Counselor will collaborate with the Youth Outreach & Recreation Manager and frontline staff on a daily basis to help see through the vision of the summer camp. The Day Camp Counselor will be responsible for overseeing and instructing Counselors in Training (CIT) on a daily basis. The underlying theme of all established programs will be to express the love of Jesus Christ and to reach out to the community's youth no matter where they may stand in their walk of faith.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Promote the Mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Practice vigilant supervision at all times.
  • Assist with implementation and coordination of both daily and weekly activities.
  • Maintaining a safe environment for campers, parents, and staff.
  • Serve as a positive role model for the youth of the community.
  • Facilitate a safe space for campers to ask questions and have conversations about the Christian faith in daily small group sessions.
  • Display integrity, enthusiasm and sound moral judgment.
  • Ensure campers of all ages feel seen, known and valued.
  • Implementing a positive environment through appropriately enforcing rules.
  • Engage with parents during drop off and pickup.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, CITS, and supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned.


General Qualifications and Proficiencies



  • Must be a minimum of 16 years old.
  • Drivers must be 21+ years of age.
  • Strong desire and ability to work with children and parents.
  • Ability and confidence to assist, facilitate, and lead a variety of activities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Must be able to relate positively, professionally and energetically with staff, youth, parents, members and community.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Thrive in a team-oriented environment. Be a team player.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality as needed.
  • Willingness to get First Aid and CPR Certified.


    Physical Requirements



    • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
    • Ability to grasp, push and pull objects, and reach overhead.
    • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.
