Overview Bronx/Westchester Electric is looking to hire an Operating Supervisor to join its Environmental Operations Team. Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of weekly employees and contractor resources responsible for ensuring safe and environmental-friendly access to underground structures for routine, emergency and emergent work.
- Manage, coordinate, track and execute underground and aboveground environmental clean-ups (primarily oil).
- Provide oversight of proper handling, disposal and tracking of environmental waste; and ensure compliance of all DEC & DEP regulations and permitting requirements associated with the operation & maintenance of the Hellgate Facility, including barge operations.
- Ensure availability of resources 24x7 by maintaining personnel schedules to include coordinating required training, medical appointments, vacation time, and day-of absences, and monitor fleet & equipment availability by tracking the repair and maintenance of the assigned fleet of vehicles and respective company equipment.
- Review and analyze performance reports to improve efficiency and crew productivity, reduce delays, and improve the teams completion rate of assigned work.
- Engage in cost management initiatives, including accounting for and approving expenditures & managing overtime.
- Utilize technology including Cell Phone Apps and computer systems to schedule work, ensure accurate time reporting & timely work closure, and periodically conduct peer audits.
- Ensure that the work our team performs is in alignment with the companys environmental, health & safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure that the companys impact on the environment is minimized and in alignment with Company goals & government agencies.
- Ensure timely completion and processing of regulatory documents, including Bill of Lading, Waste Manifests, etc.
- Provide oversight of the requisitioning and reconciliation process for all section-related materials and services; while serving as a Company liaison with regard to external customers, and external agencies.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years relevant work experience in Electric Operations or Electric Construction. or
- Associate's Degree and 4 years relevant work experience in Electric Operations or Electric Constructions. or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years relevant work experience in Electric Operations or Electric Construction.
Relevant Work Experience
- Supervisory experience 1-2 years. Preferred
- Contractor oversight experience. Preferred

Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Perform work in underground vaults through manholes
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Must be able to walk extensively as well as climb, bend and lift.
- Must be able to work steady and/or rotating shifts.
- Must be available for response to emergency work 24 hours per day.
- Must be able to work overtime (8,12, and 16 hour shifts) as needed.
