The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its 200+ faculty and clinician members and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients. The CFCCC's Office of Community Outreach & Engagement (COE) is a mandatory component of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG), and NCI's designation to the CFCCC, and functions as an entity with its own strategic plan, advisory board, and required roles and responsibilities that are codified in the CCSG.

The NCI designation has a vital reputational and financial impact for CFCCC, UCI and UCI Health. Adherence to the guidelines of the CCSG is mandatory and involves ongoing monitoring of the organization for structure, direction, and fiscal management. All decisions at the CFCCC are taken within the context of the CCSG requirements.


Your Role on the Team

The Community Health Educator of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) Office of Community Outreach & Engagement (COE) works under the general supervision of the Director of Outreach and Education and with community partners to develop, conduct, and evaluate community-based cancer education programs and activities, with a focus on Asian American populations. The Community Health Educator uses professional health education concepts, applies campus policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues, and works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Working knowledge of the health promotion and education field.
  • Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.
  • Working knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs.
  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group.
  • Ability to acquire the requisite skills to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.
  • Expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience conducting health education activities in diverse community settings, working specifically in Asian American populations.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of SPSS, SAS, RedCap, SurveyMonkey and/or similar
  • Bilingual in English and Vietnamese
  • Knowledge of clinical trials recruitment methodologies
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and Human Subject Research policies

Special Conditions:

  • Often requires after-hours and weekend work hours as well as travel in and around Orange County (Irvine Campus, Orange Campus, satellite healthcare sites, community organizations, etc.)
