Job Title: Controller

About the Role:

We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the financial operations of our growing construction company. This role requires someone who is not only strategic but also willing to be deeply involved in day-to-day accounting tasks, from data entry for accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) to financial statement preparation and reporting. As the company expands, the Controller will be responsible for hiring and training additional accounting staff to handle transactional work, allowing them to focus on higher-level financial management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage and perform AP, AR, general ledger reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, job cost reports, and performance analyses to support business decisions.
  • AIA Billing: Oversee and execute AIA billing processes, ensuring compliance with construction industry standards.
  • Software Management & Implementation:
    • Utilize QuickBooks Enterprise for accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Cash Flow & Budgeting: Monitor cash flow, prepare budgets, and manage financial planning to optimize resources.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and maintain strong internal controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP and industry-specific regulations.
  • Team Development: Hire, train, and oversee additional accounting staff as the company scales.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Enterprise (required) and familiarity with Procore (a plus).
  • Strong understanding of AIA billing, job costing, and WIP reporting.
  • Experience with AP, AR, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, growing environment and take ownership of financial operations.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Target Base Compensation: $90,000-$110,000

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;
  • office location and other geographic considerations;
  • other business and organizational needs.

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
